Just the best

”Aren´t music videos just the best?”, said someone recently at Smak Film, while shooting, well, a music video.

Why is that?

A discussion ensued:

“In music videos you get to use the filmmaker´s whole toolkit. Unleash creativity, you know?”

“Image and sound drive the story: that´s pure cinema!”

“Genre-play is allowed! Weirdness is allowed!”

“A music video is pure emotion. You get to infuse every image with the strongest emotion!”

Every word rings true. Creating teaser videos like the ones we made for Pihlaja´s “Paha Barbi” and “Tatuoitu” is a delicious challenge. 

But the same attitude of challenge is true – must be true – in all of our projects, from instructional videos to documentary, from commercials to short fiction. The filmmaker´s toolkit must be thoroughly rummaged in every project. We must drive the story with pure image when we can. Touch the viewer!
