“Straighten up and drive right!”

We enjoy being part in communicating an important societal message. Traffic safety for conscripts and other youths is certainly one such case.

Smak has made two films for the Finnish Road Safety Council, to be used for traffic safety training for new conscripts in the Finnish Defence Forces. The first one was an editorial, introductory piece for safety training. The second one, “Riding with Lieutenant Stonecold” was a fictional short film. Its task was to turn a traffic safety lecture into a comedy drama that would grip the interest of young soldiers in barrack auditoriums across the land. 

In other words, we were telling a story to extremely media-savvy young viewers who had gotten up at six, on the verge of falling asleep in the warm, oxygen-deprived auditorium. Mission: impossible, but doable.
