“Explorers”

DIAK University tasked us with two student portraits to promote DIAK´s exchange student programmes. At the time of shooting, Belgian Parel  was enjoying her Finnish exchange experience, while Finnish Sanni was busy planning her own exchange adventure abroad.

This type of film works only if it has authenticity and intimacy, and the protagonists feel safe to share personal feelings and moments on camera. This requires trust-building between the crew and the protagonist, long before cameras roll. Smak´s recipe for this is simple: time and respect. We´re all just ordinary people enjoying each others’ company and stories, in front and behind the camera.
