“SCALE”
Our filmmaking challenge in this project was how to pack symbolic meaning and engaging storytelling into material filmed at a fast-moving factory, without the ability to scout or control the shooting environment.
We approached the challenge with a strong visual insight and pre-planning so the moment we stepped onto the factory floor we knew exactly what kind of shots we needed.
We wanted to first give the viewer a feeling of “being small” in face of global challenges. We then wanted to pivot the story towards hopeful imagery of collaboration, of strength in numbers. In short, the human perception of scale was our cinematic tool, to tell the story of the scalable impact of sustainable Outokumpu steel. The desired effect was achieved through controlled angles and tilt-shift lenses, producing a “miniature effect”.
